Gifford's part deux

Saturday: We decided to show the Gifford Sr.'s how the Gifford Jr.'s spend our weekends on the road.  Brace yourselves, you know you're in for a wild ride when you're on the road with us!  We packed ourselves in a minivan and headed once again, to the Blue Mountains.  Destination: Jenolan caves!  This time, not only take a gander at the entrances, but to actually GO INSIDE.  Crazy right?

Getting ready to go

Of course after only about an hour, we had to stop to let the kids run around.  The weather was not favorable, but my kids are not afraid of getting wet.  Especially when there is play equipment involved.

After a good run around at the playground, getting wet and dirty, we hit the road again towards the caves.  We stopped for lunch at a totally random pizza place/metal gallery in the middle of nowhere.  Surprisingly, it was the best pizza we've had while in Australia!

Pumpkin, pesto, caramelized onion, goat cheese, and mozzerella
After filling our bellies, we were off once again.  This time, the road got narrow, with lots of awesome twists and turns up and down the 'mountains'.  In true Gifford style, there wasn't the lack of vomit.  Drew must have felt left out from our last trip and thought he needed to join the club.  This time I brought a change of clothes!  Yay for being prepared!

Got to the caves and decided to brave it and take the entire clan into the 'Chiefly Cave', one of the easier caves with only 421 steps.

At the cave entrance.  Soaked from the constant rain!

Carrying all the kids up and down stairs and through corridors

Drew would walk around and point to everything.  He was in awe.

Isla had a blast too

I am so glad we decided to take a cave tour.  Thanks to Devon's parents for being so willing to join in on one of our adventures.  It was so much fun and the kids loved it and were so well behaved!

So in Australia, one of the things a tourist would love to see is a wild kangaroo.  On the ride home from the caves, we all had our eyes peeled to the windows for a glimpse of a kangaroo.  We certainly saw many signs for kangaroo and wombat crossing, but unfortunately the only kangaroos and wombats we saw were laying on the side of the road.  :(  BUT.. Laura Lou wins the prize, she saw a few specks in the distance and they were FOR SURE kangaroos.  At least, we think they were kangaroos.  We'll just say they were kangaroos.

There are some specks just left of the tree.  Can you see them?  They are there, really, they are.
As if our day wasn't long enough already (about a 4 hr. drive to the caves and back) we decided to stop at The Three Sisters.  A rock formation and huge tourist attraction.  Devon's seen it many times, but I've never seen it and was interested in going.

This is what we saw:

This is what we were supposed to see:

Oh well, we had to imagine it there just like we did with the Kangaroos.  Overall a great and looooong day!  Sunday will be another long one, but we sure have fun!

That post will have to come later though.  Katie, Colin and baby Lucas will be arriving tomorrow morning so more adventures to be had with them.  Hope they are ready for us!

  1. Oh honey, you make me laugh! In my next letter, I'm including pictures of our most recent snowfall and, if Devon's lucky, an actual snowball. Loveyoumissyou!

  2. Laura Lou was right. I zoomed in on the picture and saw kangaroos! Just finished watching the Amazing Race and got to see many of the places in Sydney Harbor that you have talked about; the ferry ride, sailing, Manly Beach and swimming in the aquarium with the sharks. I continue to love your adventures!
