Kids - Wise beyond their years

I thought this post should be about the funny and cute things my children have said to me in the past few days.

1. Drew - As I was giving him hugs while dropping him off at the creche at the gym:  "Mummy, please don't get hurt by a zebra while you're running."  Ok Drew, those crazy zebras pose quite a problem on the treadmill.  He was super serious though.  Where do they get these things?

2. Ian - Snuggling him in bed last night he says "I wuv you mommy, even when you're a meanie".  Now, that's the definition of tough love!  Glad I'm still loved.. for now.

3. Isla - last night after the boys went to sleep, Isla had a little time alone with Devon and I.  Devon shared some of his granola with her and she said in all seriousness "Guys, this is the best night ever.  I have a great idea, let's do this all the time, I just love you guys."  Awe, melt my heart.

And now for my latest endeavor - drum roll pleeeeaaase...

I am going to attempt to eliminate processed foods from my pantry, fridge, lunch box, couch cushions etc.  I know, I will have lots of critics on this and it will be a huge challenge.  Especially considering almost all packaged food, especially marketed towards children are filled with corn syrup, genetically modified whatever, food dyes, nitrites and nitrates and whatever cancer causing nasty things the FDA approves in our food.  I read an article today about how the US allows certain ingredients that the UK and Australia flat out ban in their countries.  Scary huh?  With the amount of sickness and obesity we see in the US, it's amazing how our government is promoting and condoning this to happen to their citizens.  My eyes have been opened while here in Australia.  They eat SO well - kids eat dried fruits, nuts, carrots, hummus.  Devon has seen his Aussie co-workers eat brown rice, fresh veggies, whole grains, salads with virtually NO frozen pre-made meals i.e. Lean Cuisine that we see so much of in the states.

I just hope my laziness doesn't take over because I will be making a lot of homemade snacks from here on out with a lot of whining and "I doooon't liiike itt"for a while.  Need to train the kid's brain out of the junk they are used to and back to the natural food God has intended us to eat!  Can I get an Amen!?  I love when I get fired up on stuff.

And the picture of the day:  Family hiking in the Grampians.  5K of intense hiking which would have been hard enough without the kids.  But we did it and it was great.  First of many family hikes I hope!
